Training/Experience

Licensure: I am a licensed psychologist in Maryland (License #3495)

Education:   I received my Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology from the APA approved program at Colorado State University in 1993. My APA approved doctoral internship was at the Ohio State University from 1992-1993.

Professional Experience:  I have over 30 years of experience as a clinician and educator. Early in my career I was a college professor at the University of the Virgin Islands and St. Mary’s University of Minnesota.

From 1998-2006 I was a staff psychologist at the inpatient treatment center St. Luke Institute in Silver Spring. There I specialized in working with Catholic priests and religious with mood disorders, personality disorders, behavioral issues, and addictions.  Since 2006 I have had a general adult practice in the Silver Spring area where I offer individual therapy, consultation, and workshops.

I have taken additional training in the area of Mindfulness and Self Compassion.

Areas of Specialization : I frequently work with clients who struggle with mood disorders, including depression and anxiety and grief. I have also supported a number of women and men who are healing from childhood trauma or abuse.  I have experience supporting people in recovery. Another area of specialization is working with men and women in ministry and religious life addressing some of the special challenges of this life.  I have specialized training in Mindfulness and Mindful Self- Compassion.
