Welcome
Welcome ! My name is Dr. Kathy Galleher. I am a licensed clinical psychologist with over 30 years of experience. I offer individual therapy for adults in the Washington, DC metropolitan area, and specialize in individual psychotherapy. At some point in life, many of us get caught in patterns or habits that make us unhappy and are difficult to stop. These can be emotional (anxiety, depression) or behavioral or relationship patterns. We are often very self-critical when what we need is support, acceptance, and compassion. I have helped a number of people to find greater freedom and peace in their lives. Let’s see if I can be helpful to you.
Please note: Currently my practice is a mix of teleheath and in person appointments. The video platform I use is secure, HIPAA compliant, and easy to use. I have some limited in-person availability.
My Approach: I am trained in a number of therapy styles, but I primarily use Mindfulness and Self Compassion practices in my work. Mindfulness is an approach to therapy that emphasizes ways to slow down, pay attention to what is happening in the present moment, experience greater peace, develop compassion for oneself and others, and respond to the situation in a more intentional and helpful way. I also have training and experience in a variety of other approaches including Cognitive-Behavioral approaches, and trauma informed approaches to early childhood pain or trauma.
Specialization: I work with adult individuals, (rather than children, couples or families -those are different specialties). I have experience working with a wide range of issues including depression, anxiety, childhood trauma, self-esteem, sexual compulsivity, as well as personal growth questions. I also have a great deal of experience working with individuals in ministry and religious life and integrating spiritual questions/concerns with therapy.
